Verónica Gómez Aguirre
Director of the Secretariat for the Americas International Organization for Social Tourism ISTO Americas
She is originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, where she studied science and worked for 10 years as a teacher and researcher at the University of the Republic, before emigrating to Canada.
In 2005, she joined the Secretariat for the Americas of the International Social Tourism Organization-ISTO Americas, based in Montreal, as coordinator of the awareness program for young people in Quebec “For a citizen youth in tourism”. In 2006, she assumed the position of director of ISTO Americas, functions that she maintains to this day.
Between 2009 and 2014, she also directed the Youth Travel Foundation, a scholarship program that encourages and promotes access to travel for young people aged 15 to 35 in Canada.
Since 2019, she is an expert member of the Ibero-American Institute of Inclusive Tourism, based in Mexico, an organization that has recognized professionals with extensive experience in accessible tourism, from 16 Latin American countries.
In 2020, she assumes the coordination of the Education area of the ISTO worldwide, the continuous training program for members. Throughout these more than 15 years linked to the tourism sector, she has coordinated advisory and public policy projects for governments and organizations in various Latin American countries, as well as visited, following up in her capacity as an expert, diverse and varied experiences and social, solidarity and sustainable tourism programs throughout the continent. She has given trainings throughout the Americas and given more than 250 conferences in America, but also in Europe and Africa.
